About the artist
Brendan Kramp grew up in St. Paul where he began studying art in grade and high school. He lived abroad in London from 2001 - 2007 and Paris from 2007 - 2010 where he earned an MBA from HEC Paris in addition to his previous studies in Literature and Creative Writing at Brown University and the University of Minnesota. Brendan has a studio in the Casket Arts Building in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District where he opens regularly for the yearly Art-a-Whirl open studio tour weekend as well as other events.
‘‘In my painting, I like to concentrate on urban and natural scenes with a strong sense of atmosphere and light. Many of the urban interiors, including coffee shops and industrial creative spaces, draw from my travels to different cities and countries, including attempts to capture the feeling of each place or culture. Similarly, the local landmarks and interiors convey a special sense of some of the more everyday and unknown spaces that make up the Twin Cities. In each of them, I seek to convey the feeling and mood of each space while telling stories through the characters and architecture that form the painting. My studies in English Literature and Creative Writing strongly influence my work and the narratives behind each painting.
The paintings on show at the Alliance Francaise represent work that I have completed in the last couple years, including some international scenes and local favorites from recent trips to France and greater Europe. The concentrations on light, perspective, and group portraiture are themes that repeat throughout much of my work.
I show nationally at fairs and exhibitions. You can see more on my web site at : http://www.brendankramp.com and also on my instagram account @brendan_kramp_studio’’
