Exhibition by Kanyana Norah Ntagungira - "Real Imaginary World"

“Real Imaginary World”
Exhibition by Kanyana Norah Ntagungira

Join us in welcoming the work of Kanyana Norah Ntagungira to AFMSP’s Vaaler Art Gallery. Ntagungira is a talented local artist whose current work focuses on the theme of figures in space using the medium of water color.

In the series "Real Imaginary World," Ntagungira invite viewers to notice parallels between the personified balloons as world navigators and themselves. Keeping in mind that our ability to relate to others in real life is not what ought to legitimize their or grant them worthiness. Don’t miss the exciting opportunity to connect with our city’s vibrant art scene!

Kanyana Norah Ntagungira graduated from Macalester College with a double major in Psychology and Studio Art. She works with oil paints to entertain and control her vision of a colorful and complementary world. First as an investigation of the grouping of colors which face each other on the color wheel, and how they can convey the reciprocal relationships that can be found in movement and time (i.e. conversation).

A black cis woman from Rwanda, Ntagungira was raised in different francophone countries in Africa and left home at fourteen to attend high school and then college in the United States. Her most defining cultural identity remains nationality-based. Her relationship to her homeland, Rwanda, towards adulthood had often been from the diasporic standpoint and had therefore included more self-reflection, inner dialogue, and conversations from a distance. Within her practice of steering her own narrative, her ability to explore the meaning of home and isolation expands.

After the opening night. the exhibition will be open to visitors Monday through Thursday 9 am to 7 pm, and Fridays and Saturdays 9 am to 4 pm. The exhibition will be on display until August 19th, 2023.

‘‘Real Imaginary World’’ will be open to the public free of charge! You can help support the continued presence of cultural programs which benefit our community. Please consider making a donation towards this event and future projects by registering below.
