We previously welcomed Lane Rosenthal for a presentation on “Hidden Paris“: the historical gems hiding in plainsight throughout la Ville Lumière. Now, Lane is returning to the Alliance Française after spending the autumn in Paris to share her experiences of modern Paris and her life lived regularly between two continents.

This event will feature a presentation by Lane, including live reading from her travel writing on Paris and time for a Q&A.

George Bonga: Black, White, or Ojibwe?

George Bonga was a French-speaking fur trader in Minnesota in the 19th Century. The Bonga family was one of the few families of African ancestry in southwest Ojibwe country in the 18th and 19th centuries. Dr. Harper tells the Bonga family's multigenerational story of living within structures of empire, slavery and colonialism, and the ways in which their identities lay at the heart of their survival.

Event in English, presented in partnership with the French-American Heritage Foundation.

Practice your reading skills and comprehension with our intermediate French book club: Les Navigateurs de la Littérature. This group meets the second Wednesday of every month from 7pm – 8pm. Each meeting focuses on a different book, so both returning readers and newcomers are invited to attend. During meetings, we discuss the plot of the book, review what we did and did not like, and explore any questions that members may have. Everyone also selects a favorite excerpt to read aloud and to bring to the conversation. The discussion will be in French!
