The Fête de la musique, also known in English as Music Day, Make Music Day or World Music Day is an annual music celebration that takes place on 21 June. On Music Day the citizens of a city or country are allowed and urged to play music outside in their neighborhoods or in public spaces and parks.

The first all-day musical celebration on the day of the summer solstice was originated by Jack Lang, Minister of Culture of France, as well as by Maurice Fleuret; it was celebrated in Paris in 1982. Music Day later became celebrated in 120 countries around the world.

The event will take place at Utepils Brewing - 225 Thomas Ave N #700, Minneapolis, MN 55405

Please note:
This event is open to the public, so seating is first come, first served. Arrive early to secure your spot!

Program

DJ Megan O

5pm & in between sets
DJ MeganO hosts a weekly radio show on Barely Brothers Radio, featuring all her favorite songs. Lots of 60s garage, soul/R&B, with an emphasis on female vocalists and foreign language tracks. She loves spinning French vinyl!
Kaity Joan

5:30pm
Kaity Joan is a 21 year old singer/songwriter from the Twin Cities. When playing with her newly founded full band “Joan” her style can be described as alternative pop. However, when performing on her own she takes the chance to strip the songs down and play them how they were originally written.
Douala Soul Collective

6:30pm
If you could put a rainbow in DJ form, it would be the Douala Soul Collective! They will be spinning their vinyl’s collection of an eclectic genre of rhythms including funk, Afro, and international beats. Come and enjoy yourself!
Whale in the Thames

7:30pm
High energy and full of playful antics, Whale in the Thames is a rock band that takes their fun seriously. They have been compared to The Velvet Underground or Les Rita Mitsouko. The music has been described as a breath of fresh air. With songs in French, sometimes-synchronized dance moves and clever props, the live shows are always entertaining!

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
